My scroll saw and I

Happy Spring!

Hello, everybody!  I hope that spring is finding its way to your parts these days.  Even for someone like me, who loves winter, I find it to be a nice change from the ice and cold weather and I am even looking forward to the warm weather and spending some time at the beach!

Keith and I have been busy working on some fun new projects for you to make to help you chase those winter ‘blahs’ away.  Between keeping up with our work with Creative Woodworks and Crafts, the site here and some new painting ventures that I have been involved in, it has been a busy time.  But we still have lots of new and creative projects for you all to make.

Keith just finished designing a beautiful Victorian scroll sawn clock pattern (SLDK198) for those of you who enjoy traditional fretwork.  The clock is simple to build, and the case has a beautiful fretwork motif.  The inside is lined with Plexiglas and it is lighted from the inside, making it a wonderful showpiece.
)

He has also created a fun Laundry Room Plaque (SLDK200) which would make a great mother’s day gift or just a fun sign for to hang in your utility room or over your washer and dryer.

As for myself, I have a wonderful Calendar Topper Plan that you are sure to love (SLD383).  The pattern includes the instructions for a nice topper to hang a pre-purchased calendar of any size, and it also includes 12 sets of seasonal overlay pieces that correspond with the season and month.  The overlay pieces are held on with Rare Earth Magnets, making them easy to change and store.  You simply pop on a new set in a few seconds and the whole scene changes!  The very detailed plan is 22 pages and has full color photographs and full instructions for creating the calendar topper in natural wood, or adding some color to the pieces using regular acrylic paints and DecoArt Staining and Antiquing Medium.  (Now don’t be scared!  Staining with this method is EASY!  Just mix a little paint with the staining medium and brush the tops of the pieces.  No shading or messing around! All the lines are already scrolled in for you so they are easy to follow.  You should give this a try!

I will also be creating some additional ‘add-on packs’ for the calendar in themes like birthday, graduation, horses, wildlife and other fun themes.  Watch our newsletters for announcements when the add-ons will be available. If you aren’t already on our mailing list, please sign up for product updates.

Additionally, I have created a new Seashell Candle Tray and Charms set (SLD382), as well as two Sea Life Collapsible Trinket Dishes (SLD385).  These all coordinate beautifully together to brighten up your bathroom or to decorate your summer home or cottage.  You will think of many uses for these wonderful  new projects.
I designed another new collapsible trinket dish to give you for your free download. This dish is in the shape of a kitty, and will make a wonderful little project to put on your desk filled with paper clips or on an end table full of candy.  You could even store cat treats in it!  This pattern is free for you to download so you can try this easy process of making these collapsible dishes and see how quick and fun these projects are.  Check out the Free Stuff page to get your download now.

And finally, I have been working on some new items for the Painters on our list.  I added in a new painting packet (SLDP205 Eight Pumpkin Prim Ornaments) and kit for you to try.  You can paint the pumpkins either with or without their cute expressions and have equally beautiful results.  The pattern is sixteen pages with lots of step-by-step photographs to guide you through the painting process.  This is a great pattern for beginners, and also has a pre-cut kit available for those of you who don’t cut your own wood.  (I am adding more painting kits all the time, and trying to make them available at the lowest price that I can. Be sure to check out our Specials page, as many of the painting kits and patterns are now on special, as well as some great scroll saw patterns.

So that just about does it for now!  As always, we have lots more in the works and are looking forward to creating new patterns for you all every day.  You can follow us on Facebook (under the name of Sheila Landry Designs Scroll Saw Art) for daily updates and news about the site. You can also follow my daily Blog here on the site.  I add a new entry just about every morning and talk about my day to day experiences with designing both woodworking and painting patterns, as well as working with magazines and wholesalers.  I also enjoy hearing from you all and talking with you, too!

Enjoy your visit!

A Bit About Me

Thank you again for your interest in my designs! In 1995 I created my company, "Toys In The Attic" as a vehicle to share my creativity with you. When I began my company, I focused mainly on creating soft sculpture finished items and decorations and mohair teddy bears. As I evolved in woodworking and pattern designing, I felt that the name “Sheila Landry Designs” was a better fit.

I grew up in the Chicago area in the United States. I began my woodworking and painting career just after my daughter Danielle was born, over 20 years ago. A very dear friend of mine, Cari Denison, introduced me to scroll sawing and I have very fond memories of those early days with Cari of learning to scroll saw, painting and doing projects – all while watching our four young children and taking care of our houses and families! In 1996, I was fortunate enough to meet the great people from All American Crafts Publishing and began working on several of their magazines, including Creative Woodworks and Crafts Magazine.

I have been fortunate to be able to continue designing and working with Creative Woodworks as a Contributing Editor for nearly fifteen years. My first design appeared in Creative Woodworks in April of 1997 and I have been working with the magazine ever since. Since I began working with them, I have had over 100 projects published in their magazine.

Life’s circumstances have brought me to Nova Scotia, Canada and I am now settled into this beautiful place which is full of tons of inspiration for new designs. This past year has seen new growth and opportunities for the business that I would have only dreamed of. I look forward to what the future will bring and I hope you will keep in touch and enjoy it with me. I have a mailing list you can join so that I can update you regularly of new products, sales and events that will be of interest to you and inspire your own creativity.

My door is open anytime if you have questions or need advice. If I am unable to answer the question myself, I have a number of resources I can connect you with so you can have your answers quickly.

I hope you continue to enjoy my designs as much as I enjoy creating them for you!
