Even though most of us who garden don't like the thought of having 'uninvited visitors' come for a snack, I think that these adorable little garden hare plant pokes will be the exception.  They will dress up your seedling pots and help you remember which seeds you planted.

As usual, I am offering several different versions for finishing this project.  You can use hard wood and cut the lettering out on your scroll saw if you like and leave the markers in a natural wood finish. This method is a bit challenging however, and geared for the more experienced scroll sawyer or can be used as a skill builder for someone newer to sawing.  Since the markers are small, they are great for practicing your cutting skills.  Just be sure to use a tight-grained hard wood that will hold up well to the delicate cutting.

For those newer to scroll sawing -or those who like to paint - we offer two additional finishing variations.  The first one involves simple painting and using DecoArt Chalkboard Paint.  That way you can write the names of the seedlings or herbs using chalk or a soapstone pencil as I have done here. Obviously, this version would not be used outside, but would work fine for indoor plants or seedlings.

Finally, I am sharing another method of using an inkjet printer to transfer the lettering to the wood pieces.  (See the article on the Free Patterns & Resources page to see how it is done!)  This is a quick and easy way to transfer lettering or any type of design using your home inkjet printer (NO LASER PRINTER NEEDED!)  Not only can you use this method with this project, but I think you will think of many other applications for it as well.

Whichever method you use, I am sure that these little garden hares will brighten your day!

We also sell pre-cut wood kit silhouettes of these designs for the painters out there to have fun with. You can find them on our Painting Surfaces page.
