SLD462 - "Early Inspirations" Mallard Duck Portraits
This pattern is part of our new "Early Inspirations" series. The series is geared toward newer scrollers and offers patterns that are somewhat easier to accomplish. The pattern includes two plaques in two finished sizes - a larger set that fits into a standard 8" x 10" frame and a smaller set that fits into a standard 5" x 7" frame. I chose these sizes so that you can easily purchase ready-made frames to fit. Of course, you can adjust the size to any size you see fit.
The designs are attractive, yet simple enough that even someone newer to scroll sawing can accomplish creating them with little difficulty. I strongly suggest making the larger size first if you are unsure, as they are a bit easier to cut than the small size. I also recommend creating these plaques using 1/8" good quality birch plywood. Plywood is much sturdier than hard wood and it will be more forgiving if errors are made.
I hope you enjoy creating this design. I also suggest that if you are just starting out to visit our Free Patterns & Resources page and take advantage of the many articles and videos we offer. You may also benefit from our new book: Getting Started With a Scroll Saw, for a more comprehensive look at many of the questions that beginners ask.
