SLDK390 - 10 Overlay Cross Ornaments
You can make them exactly as shown, as two-layer hanging ornaments. To do this, just cut the “backers” and “overlays” pattern sections out of contrasting woods.
Alternatively, you can omit the hanging hoops and glue magnets with 2-part epoxy onto the back of the finished crosses so that you can display them on your fridge.
You could also choose to enlarge the patterns to any size you like and make them into beautiful wall crosses. Enlarged to double or triple size, these designs would be quite easy to make and would be a suitable project for for a novice scroller. You could also cut a larger oval to use as a backer behind your cross and make it into a plaque.
The pattern packet also contains linework for an alternate versions of the overlay designs so that you can use them as standalone ornaments which means you could make a basic single layer set with just the backer linework and another set with just the modified overlay linework. Some of these designs may be a bit delicate as a single layer ornament, others will be very easy to cut and you may be able to reduce the pattern size significantly allowing you use the resulting ornaments as pendants.
I am sure that you can think of many more ways to use these designs. I hope you have fun making them and look forward to seeing what creative ideas you come up with. If you make these designs as ormanents, I would consider them an intermediate level scroll saw pattern.
